Imagine a crowded underground club, with cheap drinks, great pizza, and a crowd with nothing but good vibes in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. That’s the scene for the Weakened Friends show with Nervous Dater, Coping Skills, and Hit Like a Girl.
The Portland, Maine band is just coming off a tour making east coast stops along the way to SXSW. Their show at Kingsland was one of the last stops on their way back home bringing their angsty, powerful indie rock to Brooklyn. They released their newest album Common Blah in October of 2018 and it sounds like an ode to the hellscape that is your twenties. With lyrics that bite and riffs that punch this album will make you feel not so alone in your frustration with navigating young adult life.
Hit like a girl opened the show, followed by Coping Skills and Nervous Dater who brought a similar sound of passionate indie rock n roll. These talented bands were perfect compliments to Weakened Friends performance. They took to the stage with a packed house. Singer and guitarist Sonia, bassist Annie, and drummer Cam all have a magnetic stage presence that captures your heart. You can tell they’re great friends and love what they do. They went on to play songs like their newest single “Blue Again” and more from Common Blah like “Hate Mail”, “Peel”, “Not Doing Good”, and “Early”.
