We all have an underworld within us; personal shadows waiting to be brought to light. Tonight Alive is bringing you Underworld to share the emotional journey into their own darkness and how they embrace it. The 13 track album is set to release on January 12th, 2018 via Hopeless Records.
Based out of Sydney, Australia – the Australian rock band is composed of vocalist Jenna McDougall, rhythm guitarist Jake Hardy, bassist Cameron Adler and drummer Matt Best. Tonight Alive self-released the EPs All Shapes & Disguises and Consider This in 2010, and then went on to release What Are You So Scared Of? in 2011 and The Other Side in 2013. Underworld is their first album released under Hopeless Records.
Jenna McDougall wrote the lyrics for Underworld by artfully taking apart her oppressed feelings of darkness and depression to get a deeper understanding of self identity and why she loves creating music. “The album is called Underworld and I named it that because it reflects the ugly parts of me that I wasn’t ready to see until now,” said McDougall.
Songs that really reflect her vision for the album are “The Other” and “Waiting For The End”. With soaring vocals like “It took a lot for me to realize, to open up and understand why everybody looks at me like I’m what I outta be…I am the other,” McDougall speaks about her process of self realization in “The Other.” Guitar driven track, “Waiting For The End” emphasizes the importance of individuality, awakening your soul and not fearing failure.
Tonight Alive released a music video for their track “Temple”, which is a deeply personal song with lyrics revealing the struggles of mental illness.
